 Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes

 August 12, 2024 Ellicottville Town Center

Members Attending: Sue Blesy, Mike Braun, Ed Chapman, Gretchen Plough, Blair Hamilton, Diane Smith, and Steve Ward.

Absent: Laurie Barrera

  • Approve agenda
  • Call to order and welcome.
  • Minutes: The trustees considered the minutes of the July 8, 2024 meeting. Gretchen moved and Sue seconded the motion to accept the minutes. The motion was approved and carried unanimously.
  • Mike gave a presentation on Plantsoon used for tree inventory. A motion was made by Ed and   seconded by Mike to sign up to use this.
  • Treasurer’s Report: Laurie’s report had income of $ 315.00 for the 7/8/24 – 8/11/24 quarter. Expenses totaled $73.50. Sue moved and Gretchen seconded to accept the report. The motion was approved and carried by a unanimous vote.
  • Committee and Projects Reports:
    • Technology: no report
    • Tree mapping, Inventory, and signage: We are ordering 6 new tree signs
    • Tree Maintenance and Prunning Plan: We are still working on that.
      • Steve will contact Draves Arboretum and address the plum oak that we planted.
    • Ground and Infrastructure Maintenance:
      • Still waiting for analysis from Smith Creek Fish Farm about our pond.
      • Lakeshore Paving is coating our walkway.
      • The Celebration walk was sprayed for weeds  by Jud Beattie on August 22, 2024.
      • Pond fountain costs $5000 for a two horsepower and $3000 for a three horsepower.
    • Communication:
      • email info@nannenarboretum.com is our new google account.
      • Mike Joslyn now has domain from Southern Tier IT.
    • Volunteers:
      • New volunteer is Steve Lindell
    • Education Programs/ Speakers:
      • Steve will check on new flyers with the Chamber and Mayor’s office.
    • Community Relationships/ Outreach:
      • ECS 3rd grade is looking to visit October 2nd or October 9th
      • Jean Davis/ Great Valley Ellicottville Senior Citizens looking to do a guided walk in October.
    • Memorial Program:
      • Nan installed 3 new bricks and has an order for another one.
    • Town of Ellicottville:
      • NO report
    • Field Trips
      • A field trip to Cornell was brought up
    • Wish List
      • Update with list over winter months.
  •  Unfinished Business:
    • The bedding is complete on the Dwarf Conifer bed and ready for next year.
    • Nan making new signs to direct visitors  to the pollinator garden.
  • New Business:
    • We need to fill the open board position to fill in until April.
    • Addressed “Giving Tuesday” Possibly using funds to repair our raised beds in the pollinator garden.
    • Policy and By-Laws: no update
  • Adjournment and next meeting: Sue made motion to adjourn and Gretchen seconded it. Our next meeting will be September 9th at 11:30.
